Senior PMO staff shakeup further fuels ongoing cabinet shuffle speculation
PMO deputy chief of staff Braeden Caley left the PMO last week to run as a candidate in the riding of North Vancouver–Capilano, B.C. The seat became vacant recently after Jonathan Wilkinson resigned to become Canada’s ambassador to Germany. It remains unclear whether Caley will be appointed the Liberal candidate, as the party did not hold open nomination elections the previous three byelections, or whether he will have to compete in a nomination contest. Carney’s director of global affairs, Lisa Jorgenson, is scheduled to start her parental leave at the end of this month. Carney to shuffle top staff after deputy chief leaves to seek Liberal nomination
Tim Krupa, formerly Mr. Carney’s director of policy, [is to become] deputy chief of staff and chief economist. Mr. Krupa is known as one of Mr. Carney’s closest advisers. He also worked in policy for the Trudeau Liberals and at the investment firm Goldman Sachs. Mr. Carney held various positions at the firm for more than 15 years prior to entering public life. Government says naming ministers whose vehicles sped would reveal ‘travel habits’
Naming the cabinet ministers whose vehicles were clocked by cameras breaking the speed limit would violate their personal privacy and reveal ministerial “travel habits,” the Ford government is arguing. Freedom of information documents obtained by Global News in October revealed vehicles registered to Doug Ford’s cabinet were caught speeding 23 times over three years, racking up more than $3,300 in fines. | Globalnews.ca

If you’re concerned about spiralling prices for consumer electronics of all types, from smartphones, to consoles, to PCs, one of the memory chip industry’s most important figures has some seriously bad news. SK Hynix Chief Executive Kwak Noh-jung told Reuters earlier this week that the global memory industry is heading for “the worst year in the industry’s history from the supply perspective.” Unfortunately, the CEO doesn’t see an end in sight to the problem, predicting that customer demand will remain higher than its supply capacity “even beyond 2030.” | PC Mag
